Gang Wars is a strategic semi-passive simulation game set in the sprawling underworld of The Emerald City. Built as the first major game in the GangstaVerse ecosystem, Gang Wars transforms your collectible gangsters and detectives into warriors competing for control, resources, and dominance.
How It Works
In Gang Wars, players form teams of gangsters or detectives and enter battles across eight distinct zones of The Emerald City. Each zone offers unique strategic advantages and challenges.
Battles are simulation-based with RPG elements determining outcomes. Their character’s class, level, and equipped items all influence combat effectiveness. The strategic depth comes from assembling the right team composition and choosing when and where to fight.
Game Features
Players can equip their characters with weapons, abilities, and items earned through gameplay or purchased with $CROWN. Wars run continuously with both free and paid entry options using ICX or $CROWN.
Leaderboards track top kills, most wins, highest damage, and best healers, with rewards distributed weekly and seasonally. The most dedicated players earn Golden Keys and various loot crates based on their performance.

Expanding to Base
In 2024, Gang Wars expanded to Base blockchain, partnering with TOWER Ecosystem and Animoca Brands. This multi-chain deployment introduced several accessibility innovations that lowered barriers to entry.
Unlike ICON where players need to own GangstaBet NFTs, Base offers multiple ways to participate. New players can claim free characters to try the game. A rental system allows players to rent NFTs from holders for a week, creating yield opportunities for owners while giving access to competitive characters. ICON holders can stake their GangstaBet NFTs to generate playable characters on Base, bridging both ecosystems.
The Base version introduced Mob Run, a game mode developed with TOWER that allows players to earn TOWER token rewards. Over 1,000 loot crates were bridged from ICON to Base, and hundreds of NFTs were staked in the initial campaigns.
Cross-Chain Innovation
Gang Wars became the testing ground for cross-chain gaming tournaments using ICON’s General Message Passing (GMP) protocol. Season 1 connected ICON and Base players in unified competitions. Season 2 brought Arbitrum into the mix. Players from different networks competed in the same tournaments, with rewards distributed back to their native chains.
These cross-chain tournaments demonstrated that blockchain gaming doesn’t need to be fragmented by chain choice. The infrastructure handled team formation, equipment management, and reward distribution across multiple networks seamlessly.
